OpenAI Hosts First Developer Conference

On November 7th, OpenAI held its inaugural developer conference called DevDay in San Francisco.

The event included keynotes, demos, and updates on OpenAI's latest AI products and plans.

Key announcements included:

  • OpenAI launching a platform for creating custom ChatGPT agents for specific use cases. These AI bots are called GPTs.

  • Release of GPT-4 Turbo, an upgraded version of OpenAI's massive language model with knowledge of events up to April 2023.

  • Introduction of the GPT Store, coming later this month, where users can share and sell their custom GPT chatbots.

Major ChatGPT Updates Announced

OpenAI revealed some major upgrades coming to ChatGPT itself.

The chatbot will soon get GPT-4 Turbo, allowing it to browse the web, write code, analyze data, and more.

ChatGPT will also automatically choose the right underlying AI model without users needing to pick from a menu.

GPT-4 Turbo Revealed

GPT-4 Turbo has broader knowledge, longer context capacity (128,000 tokens), and operates faster than previous versions.

OpenAI said it will release a production-ready Turbo model within weeks.

The company also announced it is lowering GPT-4 pricing by up to 3X to encourage more usage by developers.

Custom ChatGPT Agents Coming Soon

With the new GPT building platform, anyone can create a custom ChatGPT bot for specific uses, with no coding required.

These GPTs can be taught using natural language prompts and shared via the GPT Store.

OpenAI says it will pay creators based on usage of their GPTs.

“We’re going to start with just sharing a part of the [ChatGPT] subscription revenue overall. There will be a tier based off how many active users you have, plus some category bonuses. I expect that to evolve a lot.”

OpenAI is launching a GPT store later this month.

The store will let users share and sell their custom GPT bots.

Sam Altman says OpenAI is going to “pay people who build the most useful and the most used GPTs” a portion of the company’s revenue.

ChatGPT Usage Continues Explosive Growth

Some staggering usage stats were revealed at DevDay.

OpenAI announced that ChatGPT now has over 100 million weekly users - making it one of the fastest-growing products ever.

The company has over 2 million developers using its AI tools, including 92% of Fortune 500 companies.
